Glowing with the bright colours of Normandy and the Mediterranean, Bonnard's work records the joys of everyday life in paintings of his friends and family in intimate spaces. In ‘Peindre l'Arcadie’, the Musée d’Orsay gives us Bonnard in all his glory through a beautiful selection of works (over 100 brought in on loan), showcasing his warm tonalities in the Nabi style, Japanese decorative panels, Gauguin-style shifts in perspective, huge bucolic triptychs, Toulouse-Lautrec style distortions and more.

More intelligently thought out than many exhibitions, the curating of ‘De Giotto à Caravage’ offers an original interpretation of two giants of Italian art through the unique figure of critic and collector Roberto Longhi, who died in 1970. Long before the scientific technology was developed, Longhi expertly reattributed unsigned works to their real authors, particularly Caravaggio. Through his art historian’s passions, the Musée Jacquemart-André takes us on a thrilling exploration of Italian art in the process of enormous change.

The project is centred on a 2,400-seat concert hall and includes an educational wing aimed at reaching out to a broad spectrum of the public. The project submitted by Ateliers Jean Nouvel was chosen by an international design competition in 2007. Sited in a park that already has a cultural focus, in an up-and-coming district on the northeast edge of Paris, and clearly visible from the outer suburbs of the city, the innovative architectural design of the complex will make a strong statement.
Designed principally to host major symphony orchestras – with the Orchestre de Paris as the resident orchestra – the Philharmonie de Paris will also promote other forms of musical expression such as jazz and world music. Very much an orchestral centre, promoting musical education and culture, a variety of daytime courses in music will be offered to young people and adults alike.

In partnership with the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the Pompidou Centre is organising the first major retrospective in Europe dedicated to the work of Jeff Koons. Exploring new approaches to the readymade and appropriation, playing with the boundaries between advanced art and mass culture, transforming the relationship of artists to the cult of celebrity and the rules of the market for thirty five years, Jeff Koons is one of the most famous contemporary artists, but also one of the most controversial. The exhibition presents a preview of the artist's new creations, as well as his best-known works: Rabbit (1996), Michael Jackson and Bubbles (1988), Balloon Dog (1994-2000) and the Equilibrium aquarium series (1985).

The Grand Palais is organising a major retrospective of about 200 works of French painter and sculptor Niki de Saint Phalle (1930-2002), married to the artist Jean Tinguely with whom she created the Fontaine Stravinsky(Stravinsky Fountain) in front of the Pompidou Centre in Paris (1983). Arriving on the art scene in 1961 with herTirs (Shooting Paintings), designed to "make paintings to bleed", Niki de Saint Phalle is the author of the famous voluptuous Nanas (French slang for women) sculptures and the monumental sculptures in the Giardino dei Tarocchi (Garden of Tarot) in Tuscany. This retrospective is an opportunity to look back at the journey of one of the least conventional artists of her time.

The museums have not yet dedicated an event or comprehensive study to Paul Durand-Ruel (1831-1922), one of the greatest dealers in the world at the turn of the 20th century and a major figure in the history of Impressionism.
From the beginning of the 1870s, Paul Durand-Ruel discovered and supported Impressionist painters with flair and passion, buying and selling thousands of Impressionist paintings, including the masterpieces of the movement, often in difficult circumstances. At the turn of the 20th century, the dealer had established the largest European and American Impressionist collections, both public and private. Through some 80 paintings, drawings, photographs and documents, the exhibition will recount a crucial time, from the end of the 1860s to the turn of the 20th century, where an artistic avant-garde gained international recognition driven by an enterprising and inventive dealer.
